Iran said Tuesday that the American naval blockade on the country’s ports has now been lifted, three days before the formal signing of a memorandum of understanding with the United States. At the same time, Al Arabiya’s Sky News reported that Washington rejected an Israeli request to review the details of the agreement signed between Washington and Tehran.
The announcement followed President Donald Trump’s claim on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz had reopened to maritime trade, a message seen as meant to calm global markets and international shipping companies. Trump said, “Ships are starting to move, many of them laden with oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz.” He added, “They are sailing along the ‘southern route’, which is completely safe, secure and clean. There are also other shipping lanes!”
U.S. officials said American naval forces, working with an international coalition, would continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure all sides comply with the understandings. After the reports, global crude oil prices already fell sharply.
