US, Iran Announce Immediate Ceasefire and Hormuz Reopening
The United States and Iran announced an immediate and permanent halt to military activity in all arenas, including Lebanon, after what Pakistan described as intensive talks between Washington and Tehran. The signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland.
Late Monday night, President Donald Trump said the deal with Iran was complete and ordered the Strait of Hormuz reopened at once. In his statement, he also declared an immediate end to the U.S. naval blockade in the area, saying, "Ships of the world, sail freely. Let the oil flow!"
Pakistan’s prime minister said the understandings were reached after "intense talks" and thanked the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran for choosing a diplomatic solution. He also praised Qatar’s leadership for its mediation role in helping secure the agreement.
Iranian state television said, "America was forced to sign an agreement to end the war against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the resistance front." In Israel, officials criticized the accord, saying it does not address Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles, or regional influence, while the regime in Tehran remains stable.
