Israel Continues Gaza Strikes, Violating Ceasefire

Israeli forces resumed firing in various areas of the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning, continuing daily violations of the ceasefire agreement. This follows a day of Israeli attacks that resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians and injuries to four others, including strikes on tents housing displaced people and residential areas. Local sources reported renewed, intense fire from Israeli helicopters east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, while Israeli warships fired off the coast of Gaza City. Surveillance drones were also observed flying at low altitudes west of the city.

Friday's attacks included a drone strike west of Khan Younis that killed one Palestinian and injured a young man and woman with shrapnel from artillery fire. Two other Palestinians, one seriously injured, were hit when a drone targeted a tent sheltering displaced individuals in the central Gaza town of Al-Zawaydeh. Another Israeli airstrike targeting a civilian vehicle near the entrance to Al-Wajdan camp, west of Al-Aqsa University in Mawasi Khan Younis, reportedly killed one Palestinian and injured others.

Friday's assaults also involved gunfire, artillery shelling, and the demolition of buildings and homes across Gaza. Israeli military vehicles fired towards areas east of the Shuja'iya and Al-Tuffah neighborhoods in Gaza City. These actions represent ongoing Israeli breaches of the ceasefire that has been in effect since October 2025, while many Gaza residents remain in damaged buildings, tents, and shelters amidst stalled reconstruction efforts. The United Nations estimates that over 371,000 housing units have been destroyed or damaged during the conflict.

In a separate incident on Friday, the Israeli military announced the deaths of two reservist soldiers, stating it was due to an explosion from an Israeli drone they were operating at a military site in northern Gaza. Initial army investigations, as reported by Israeli media, suggest the drone fell during takeoff without exploding, but detonated minutes later when soldiers approached it.
