Tel Aviv’s Gita Restaurant to Close Amid Area Neglect and Regional Conflicts

Gita, a well-known restaurant located in Tel Aviv's Levinsky Market, will close its doors on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The decision was made by the restaurant's parent group, Pra, which includes partners Aviad Peled, Uri Steinberg, Tom Gov, and Aliza Sheraga. They cited the impact of two wars and ongoing neglect of the neighborhood as key reasons for the closure. The area has recently suffered from a rise in drug-related issues, and bureaucratic challenges imposed by local authorities have further strained the business, affecting profitability.

Aviad Peled, one of the owners, expressed deep frustration with the municipality's failure to support the Levinsky Market area, describing it as a "magical yet rough place" that risks fading away without municipal backing. Peled highlighted that the restaurant was opened out of passion and creativity but was ultimately overwhelmed by the combination of regional conflicts involving Iran, persistent neglect, and daily bureaucratic obstacles.

Despite Gita’s closure, the Pra group is looking ahead with optimism. They plan to launch new ventures in the upcoming year and continue managing and developing their existing establishments. Recently, the group has expanded operating hours at their other venues, including the wine bar Krot, which now offers a morning menu, and the restaurant Pra, which opens daily from noon and remains open on Sundays, a day when most Tel Aviv restaurants are closed.

Peled concluded by emphasizing the group’s commitment to creativity and innovation, stating, "We are parting with Gita, remembering the good times, and moving forward with big plans and enthusiasm for new challenges."
