Russian-Israeli Historian Artem Kirpichyonok Missing Weeks After Arrival in Israel

Artem Kirpichyonok, a Russian historian with Israeli citizenship, has been reported missing for nearly three weeks after arriving in Israel. Kirpichyonok landed at Ben Gurion Airport on August 2 on a flight from Yerevan, Armenia, but shortly afterward, all contact with him was lost. Efforts by his associates to reach him have failed, prompting a series of petitions in Russia demanding greater involvement from Russian authorities to determine his whereabouts.

Three days after Kirpichyonok's disappearance, Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov told the Russian state news agency TASS that Russian diplomats were monitoring the situation. However, there have been no further official statements from Russian or Israeli authorities since then. Kirpichyonok's supporters have called on both Russian officials and international bodies to investigate his fate.

Kirpichyonok, 51, was born in Saint Petersburg and immigrated to Israel in the 1990s. He completed his studies at the Hebrew University and later returned to live in Russia for about 15 years. Known for his critical stance toward Israel and Zionism, he is recognized as a leading expert on Middle Eastern political processes and conflicts, with an academic bibliography that includes eight books and hundreds of articles.
