Political Outcry After Only Channel 14 News Removed From Israeli Hospitals

A political controversy erupted in Israel after it was revealed that only Channel 14 news broadcasts were removed from hospital screens, despite announcements that all news channels would be stopped. Hospitals Meir and Beilinson had declared they would cease airing all news channels and switch to nature and children's programming following left-wing activists' demands to blackout Channel 14. However, an investigation by Channel 14 news found that while their channel was indeed removed, Channels 12 and 13 continued to be broadcast as usual.

This discrepancy sparked sharp criticism from MK Tzvi Sukkot, chairman of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee, who accused the hospitals of double standards. He stated, "When it comes to Channels 12 and 13, suddenly the rules of equality and neutrality disappear. We will not allow one side to control the screens in Israel." Sukkot condemned the attempt to dictate which opinions the public is allowed to see.

Conversely, MK Simon Davidson of Yesh Atid supported the hospitals' decision without addressing the continued airing of Channels 12 and 13. He emphasized that hospitals should be free of disputes and negative emotions and suggested watching sports channels instead.

Hospital representatives responded that Meir Hospital is apolitical and switched to nature and children's content to maintain a pleasant environment. They also noted ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance and to fix any issues. Beilinson Hospital stated it conducted a review to confirm only nature content was broadcast and no technical faults occurred.

The incident highlights tensions over media representation and political bias within public institutions in Israel, with further scrutiny expected as the hospitals continue their content policies.
