During an operational activity in Silwan, East Jerusalem, Israeli Border Police uncovered an ancient burial cave and additional archaeological artifacts beneath a building. The discovery occurred on Monday while police were conducting searches related to a violent family dispute in the area. Experts from the Israel Antiquities Authority were called to the site for an initial examination, which dated the burial cave to the Second Temple period.

The police are currently securing the site in coordination with the Antiquities Authority to allow further investigation and proper handling of the findings. Silwan, also known by its Hebrew name Kfar Hashiloach, is a neighborhood located southeast of Jerusalem's Old City walls. The area is historically rich, containing numerous ancient relics such as the City of David, the Silwan Pool, and burial systems.

During the Second Temple era, Jerusalem was a significant religious and administrative center, with the area south of the Temple Mount forming part of the city and its access routes. Archaeological evidence of the ancient city’s life continues to be uncovered in Silwan and the City of David today.
