The story · English

A security guard from the Shin Bet’s Personal Security Unit was recorded drawing a long firearm while the Prime Minister’s motorcade was moving through busy streets in Tel Aviv last Thursday. The incident, captured on video from a nearby building, shows the guard opening the vehicle door and aiming the weapon at an unidentified target on the roadside before quickly retracting it and closing the door as the convoy continued.

The Personal Security Unit, responsible for protecting government officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, follows strict protocols for rapid response and deterrence against potential threats near the motorcade. The guard’s partial exit from the moving vehicle with a drawn weapon is a tactical measure to allow immediate fire if a threat is detected, especially when unauthorized vehicles or individuals approach the convoy.

Following public attention to the video, the Shin Bet issued an official statement confirming that the guard’s actions were appropriate, conducted according to operational procedures, and posed no danger to nearby civilians. The organization emphasized that the security measures are legally authorized and standard practice in such scenarios to ensure the safety of protected officials.
