Ironi Tiberias began the 2026/27 Israeli Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Hapoel Petah Tikva on Saturday at the Barel Stadium in Nof HaGalil. Despite facing a six-point deduction, several player suspensions, and ongoing doping allegations, the team coached by Alon Ziv and Moti Krispil secured their first three points. The first half was uneventful with few scoring chances, but the pace picked up after halftime.

The decisive moment came in the 61st minute when a foul by Hapoel Petah Tikva's Musonda on Nana Gbamblala inside the penalty area led referee Shnir Levi to award a penalty. Itamar Shabiro calmly converted the spot-kick to give Tiberias the lead. Hapoel Petah Tikva, coached by Omer Peretz, struggled to create clear opportunities despite attempts from players like Amian and Kimbidi. A late goal by Frank Ribolié was disallowed for offside, preserving Tiberias' narrow win.

The victory reduces Tiberias' points deficit, while Hapoel Petah Tikva, last season's surprise team, faces a disappointing start and must improve to replicate their previous success. The match featured several substitutions and yellow cards, with Tiberias adapting to injuries and suspensions. The league table now shows Tiberias with three points but a -3 goal difference due to the point deduction, while Hapoel Petah Tikva remains without points after one game.

Upcoming fixtures include matches involving Maccabi Petah Tikva, Maccabi Haifa, and others, with some games postponed to early September. The season opener highlighted the challenges and competitiveness of the league as teams seek to establish momentum early on.
