Anan Khalaily Makes Premier League Debut as Everton Defeat Crystal Palace 2-0

The opening weekend of the Premier League continued on Saturday with a notable moment at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Israeli player Anan Khalaily made his Premier League debut for Crystal Palace. After a turbulent summer and a last-minute failed transfer to Inter Milan, Khalaily, who joined Palace for £21 million, was not in the starting lineup due to lack of preseason play but came on as a substitute in the 55th minute.

The match saw Everton take control early, with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford making a key save in the 17th minute and the woodwork denying Palace twice, including a close-range shot by Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 38th minute. Everton opened the scoring in the 42nd minute when Kieran Dowell capitalized on a defensive error to score a powerful goal. The home team doubled their lead in the 53rd minute through Tyrone Barry, who headed in a cross from Illiman Ndiaye.

Crystal Palace, under new manager Pierre Saha, sought to improve on a disappointing second half of last season and aimed to end their winless streak against Everton dating back to December 2021. Meanwhile, Everton, coached by David Moyes, showed glimpses of strong form last season but missed out on European qualification after a seven-game winless run.

Other Premier League fixtures included Brentford facing Tottenham Hotspur, with Tottenham having invested nearly £230 million in new players this summer to avoid a repeat of last season's struggles. Additional matches scheduled for Sunday and Monday featured Brighton vs. Aston Villa, Manchester City vs. Bournemouth, Newcastle vs. Liverpool, and Fulham vs. Chelsea.

The Premier League table after the first round showed Arsenal and Manchester City leading with three points each, while Everton and Crystal Palace awaited their opening matches.

Summary: Anan Khalaily made his Premier League debut for Crystal Palace as Everton secured a 2-0 victory at home. Despite a strong start from Palace, Everton scored twice before Khalaily entered the game in the second half. The match marked the beginning of the new Premier League season with other key fixtures scheduled for the weekend.
