Ben Gurion Airport declared a crisis event on Thursday due to operational difficulties, including challenges in unloading and loading aircraft and a shortage of parking spaces. The airport, which handles around 100,000 passengers daily during this peak summer period, has stopped all check-in counters as a result of these issues.
The situation is exacerbated by more than 20 American refueling trucks occupying parking spots near Terminals 1 and 3, causing delays in transporting luggage to and from planes. This congestion also slows down the movement of passengers boarding and disembarking from aircraft not connected to jet bridges.
The operational strain at Israel's main international gateway highlights the logistical challenges faced during the busy travel season, impacting both passenger flow and baggage handling. Authorities are managing the crisis as it unfolds, with no immediate resolution announced.
