Israel Explores Boeing's Secretive F-47 Fighter Jet Amid Regional Tensions

The story · English

Israel is preparing to request information on the advanced American F-47 fighter jet, developed by Boeing, as part of its ongoing military procurement efforts. Unlike the F-22, which the U.S. has never sold to foreign countries, the F-47 project is shrouded in secrecy but may involve allied nations such as Japan, according to White House hints. Israeli defense officials are uncertain whether this openness signals a strategic political move amid rising tensions with China or a genuine willingness to share the technology with allies.

Alongside its current acquisitions of F-35 and F-15 jets, the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the IDF intend to evaluate the F-47's capabilities and U.S. policies regarding its export. The F-47 is a sixth-generation fighter featuring a newly developed engine designed to provide extended range of about 2,000 kilometers, sufficient to cover areas including Iran, Iraq, and Yemen. The engine development faces challenges due to the U.S. Department of Defense's stringent requirements.

The aircraft is expected to carry significantly more armament than the F-35 and incorporate groundbreaking artificial intelligence technologies, including the ability to deploy drones stored internally. Experts suggest certain configurations might allow for remote operation of the entire jet. The U.S. is also focusing on enhanced connectivity across air, sea, land, and space systems, superior aerodynamics, and unique stealth capabilities. Cost reduction in maintenance is another priority, contrasting with the expensive upkeep of the F-22 and F-35. The F-47 is slated for its first test flights in 2028.
