New Device Measures Your Body’s True Biological Age Using Advanced Sensors
A new device called "Checkup" has been developed to determine a person’s true physiological age, known as Wellness Age, by analyzing various body parameters. Dr. Hadar Schwartz, a physiotherapist and lecturer at the School of Sports Science and Movement at Levinsky Wingate Academic Center, demonstrated the device on the morning show "HaOlam HaBoker." The device uses sensors to assess body composition, balance, and grip strength, among other metrics, to compare the physiological age with the chronological age.
Dr. Schwartz emphasized the importance of grip strength as a key health indicator, noting that a 5-kilogram decrease in grip strength predicts a 16% increase in all-cause mortality. The device’s measurements provide a comprehensive evaluation of functional ability and overall physiological condition. The assessment also includes a dynamic aerobic fitness test, where participants perform timed squats monitored by the device’s sensor to evaluate cardiovascular fitness.
The technology integrates active physical testing with real-time digital monitoring to produce a single functional age score. Beyond the demonstration, this functional age diagnosis is used to create personalized exercise programs, especially for older adults. Dr. Schwartz explained that these metrics are critical for tailoring physical activity to improve physiological markers, prevent functional decline, and enhance quality of life.
