In an interview with Kikar HaShabbat, David Sharan, acting CEO of the Likud party, addressed the controversial issue of ultra-Orthodox members who join Likud but vote for Haredi parties in general elections. Sharan condemned this behavior as a serious violation, stating that any Likud member found voting against the party’s candidate, Benjamin Netanyahu, will be immediately expelled. He emphasized that a Likud member is expected to vote for Netanyahu at the ballot box.

Sharan also discussed the recent Likud primaries, highlighting a turnout of 53.58%, which he described as an impressive achievement given the party’s extensive voting infrastructure across more than 100 polling stations nationwide. He contrasted this with the Democrats party, which had higher turnout due to phone voting, a method currently prohibited by Likud’s rules.

Regarding allegations of irregularities at polling stations, particularly in Yeruham, Sharan assured that the party has a reliable system and an active internal tribunal to investigate any complaints. He also confirmed that Prime Minister Netanyahu openly supported certain candidates in regional districts but refrained from interfering in the national list, maintaining a clear boundary.

When asked about the timing of final results, Sharan hinted that the process would take some time, telling the reporter to expect a long wait. His firm stance on party discipline and election integrity underscores Likud’s efforts to maintain cohesion ahead of the upcoming general elections.
