Three years after leaving Maccabi Haifa, Israeli midfielder Mohammed Abu Fani is reportedly close to departing Red Star Belgrade. Serbian media outlet Sportklub reported on August 16, 2026, that Abu Fani’s exit is likely due to underwhelming performances, especially in two Champions League qualifying matches against Hapoel Be'er Sheva. Abu Fani originally joined Red Star following the decision of then-coach Dejan Stanković, who has since left the club. Maccabi Haifa is now reportedly interested in re-signing the player during the current transfer window, potentially marking a comeback to the Israeli club. Abu Fani signed with Red Star only two months ago, but his future there appears uncertain as the club considers changes following recent results.
