Lewis Hamilton wins in Barcelona for first Ferrari victory

Lewis Hamilton won the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona on Sunday, earning his first victory for Ferrari and ending a two-year winless streak. The seven-time world champion, 41, had last won at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, when he was still driving for Mercedes.

Hamilton benefited from a strong race strategy by Ferrari and made the most of a perfectly timed virtual safety car in the middle of the race. His performance and tire management allowed him to control the pace and secure the win. With the result, he became the seventh-oldest driver in Formula 1 history to win a race.

The race turned dramatic near the end when Kimi Antonelli retired with a technical engine problem just five laps from the finish, moments after passing his teammate George Russell in a tight fight for second place. Antonelli's retirement promoted Russell to second, and he reduced the gap to his teammate in the championship standings.

Lando Norris of McLaren finished third, completing an all-British podium for the first time in the series since 1968. After the race, Hamilton said over the team radio, "You helped me make this dream come true, and I cannot thank you enough. I am so proud of everyone." The victory cut Hamilton's championship deficit to Antonelli to 41 points, with the European leg of the season set to continue in Austria later this month.
