Hamilton Ends Antonelli's Winning Streak with First Ferrari Victory in Barcelona
Lewis Hamilton won the 2026 Barcelona Grand Prix, the seventh race of the Formula 1 season, ending Kimi Antonelli’s five-race winning streak after the Italian retired with a technical failure. Hamilton claimed his 106th career victory and his first for Ferrari, while George Russell and Lando Norris completed an all-British podium, the first since the 1968 United States Grand Prix.
Hamilton started second behind Russell and kept his position into Turn 1 despite Antonelli attacking from behind. Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc started 10th after a qualifying crash, recovered three places at the start, then later rose to fourth before suffering a puncture after running over the gravel. Hadjar, who started sixth, dropped back to 13th before recovering some ground.
Hamilton and Max Verstappen used a different opening strategy from the rest of the top 10, starting on soft red tires and making three stops each. Hamilton moved into the lead after the second round of stops, then benefited when Fernando Alonso retired on the roadside and triggered a virtual safety car, allowing Hamilton and Verstappen to make their final stop. Russell later closed to eight seconds, but Ferrari’s pace restored the gap to 11 seconds.
Antonelli passed Russell for second place on lap 61, then lost power and retired on lap 62. Leclerc also fell out of contention shortly after. Hamilton crossed the line with Novak Djokovic waving the checkered flag. The top 10 finished as Hamilton, Russell, Norris, Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, Isack Hadjar, Pierre Gasly, Franco Colapinto, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad. In the championship, Antonelli leads with 156 points, followed by Hamilton on 115 and Russell on 106, while Mercedes leads Ferrari 262 to 190 and McLaren is third on 141.
