Israeli Government Backing Fuels Anarchy in West Bank and Risks Major Security Incident in Gaza

תורגם ותומצת מתוך Maariv על ידי baba
The story · English

The Israeli government is openly supporting right-wing anarchy in the West Bank, particularly in the village of Kusra, where violent Jewish extremist activities persist unchecked. The IDF had to deploy Golani Brigade's Battalion 51, recently returned from combat in Gaza and Lebanon, to protect Kusra from ongoing Jewish terror attacks. Despite this, the political leadership has instructed security forces not to arrest the perpetrators, only to remove them temporarily, allowing illegal outposts to be reestablished repeatedly. Currently, there are 115 such illegal outposts in the West Bank that the IDF is prevented from dismantling.

This lack of governance extends beyond the West Bank. The IDF warns of escalating tensions in Gaza, where four terrorists were neutralized in the past day. However, military sources reveal that Israel is not conducting operations aimed at degrading Hamas's capabilities or leadership, nor retaliatory strikes, but only targeting individuals posing immediate threats to Israeli forces. Hamas is reportedly regaining strength, with aid trucks delivering millions of shekels daily, boosting morale and control over Gaza residents.

IDF officials express concern that the political echelon is restricting military action, effectively returning to a pre-October 7 stance of ignoring clear threats. This restraint is seen as enabling Hamas to train and prepare for future attacks. The military fears that it is only a matter of time before Israel faces a significant security incident emanating from Gaza. The situation reflects a broader failure of Israeli governance and security policy in both the West Bank and Gaza, with serious implications for national security.
