Samsung Galaxy Users Can Easily Free Up Gigabytes of Storage With Simple Tricks

The story · English

Android smartphone users, especially those with Samsung Galaxy devices, often face storage full warnings due to media-heavy usage. Samsung's One UI offers hidden settings and simple software tweaks that can free up tens of gigabytes without losing important data. One key method involves deleting hidden backups of edited photos and videos, as the gallery app automatically saves original versions before edits. Users can access this by going to Device Care in settings, selecting Storage, and following prompts to remove these duplicate files.

Another effective step is manually emptying the recycle bin, where deleted files remain for 30 days and continue occupying space. Additionally, Samsung's App Archiving feature allows users to freeze rarely used apps by removing core components while preserving data and settings, freeing storage without full deletion. Users should avoid selecting "select all" when archiving to prevent accidental app removal.

For long-term storage management, transferring files to cloud services like Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive (noting OneDrive support ends in September) and using the "free up space" option helps delete local copies safely. Changing camera settings to more efficient formats such as HEIF for photos and HEVC for videos, and disabling "Motion photos" which records short videos alongside still images, can also save significant space over time.

By combining duplicate file cleanup, app archiving, and optimized media formats, Samsung users can avoid storage warnings and keep their devices ready for new photos and videos with just a few minutes spent in settings.
