Family Auto Repair Shop in West Bank Settlement Burns Down, Owner Launches Rebuilding Campaign

A devastating fire destroyed the family-owned auto repair shop in the West Bank settlement of Givat Gilad last month, causing damage estimated in the hundreds of thousands of shekels. Elhanan Haikin, the owner, arrived after the fire had mostly died down and was confronted with the ruins of the business he had built over many years. The shop was more than just a workplace; it served as a trusted community hub for customers from across the Samaria region and provided livelihoods for several families, including Haikin's employees.

Haikin explained that the fire consumed all the equipment, tools, and vehicles essential for the shop’s operation, but loans and bills remain unpaid, as the business lacked adequate insurance coverage. This financial strain compounds the emotional toll of losing the source of income for multiple families. Despite the setback, Haikin is determined to rebuild the shop from scratch, emphasizing his commitment to his profession and community.

He stressed that the goal is not to have others rebuild their lives for them but to receive support enabling them to do so independently.
