The story · English

Dr. Avishai Ben Haim, an Israeli journalist, commentator, and researcher specializing in Israeli society, has joined the newspaper Makor Rishon to write a weekly column in a question-and-answer format. His column will address a variety of topics related to life in Israel and the Jewish world, blending practical and ideological discussions. Key themes will include the tensions between Haredi thought and Religious Zionism, the relationship between Kabbalah and Jewish law, mysticism versus rationalism, and the balance between tradition, morality, faith, and loyalty.

In addition to these philosophical and religious issues, Ben Haim's column will also explore everyday cultural topics such as the rivalry between Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Tel Aviv football clubs, the rise of traditionalism in Mizrahi music, and perspectives from traditional Jewish teachings. Ben Haim holds a doctorate in Jewish philosophy and is a qualified historian focusing on Haredi society and Mizrahi traditionalism. He previously served as a Haredi affairs commentator for Channel 13 news and wrote for Maariv newspaper.

Throughout his career, Ben Haim has produced television series and authored books on Mizrahi communities, Haredi society, and traditionalism, including titles like "Israel the Second," "The Haredim Know the Lover - The Journey to Understanding the Haredi World," and "Manifesto of Traditionalism." He currently participates in the panel of the television program "The Patriots" and other shows on Channel 14.

Upon joining Makor Rishon, Ben Haim expressed enthusiasm about contributing to a publication known for serious and deep conversations on Judaism, Israeli identity, society, and politics. His first column, scheduled for next week, will include commentary on whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should take responsibility for the events of the October mourning period.
