Israeli Reservists Urge IDF Chief to End Jewish Terror Amid Kosra Siege in West Bank

The story · English

Over 300 Israeli reservists have signed a petition addressed to IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, demanding decisive action to stop what they call "Jewish terror" in the West Bank village of Kosra. The petition, titled "Reservists' Letter Against Jewish Terror," criticizes the military and political leadership for failing to provide adequate support and tools to combat nationalist violence in the region. The reservists, many of whom have served hundreds of days since October 7, say they are repeatedly exposed to violent clashes without proper backing or clear mandates to prevent such incidents.

The letter highlights the ongoing siege of Palestinian homes in Kosra, describing it as part of a broader pattern of unchecked extremist activity that endangers both soldiers and civilians. Reservist Major Aviad Hominer Rosenblum, who has completed 270 days of service since October, stated that the military's inaction and the involvement of soldiers, especially from the Border Police, in these violent events tarnish the IDF's reputation. Another signatory, Captain Tom Pinchasi, emphasized that armed extremist groups operate with near impunity in the West Bank, forcing the IDF to protect a radical minority rather than enforce law and order for all residents.

The petition accuses the political echelon of sometimes supporting these extremist elements, thereby endangering soldiers and undermining Israeli security. It calls for a clear military mandate to eradicate nationalist terror and prevent further harm. The letter also references a recent attack in the village of Tal, where Lieutenant Colonel Yuval Ezra and reservist Benyahu Malt were killed while defending Israeli civilians.

Meanwhile, former IDF Chief of Staff and Democratic Party leader Major General (res.) Yair Golan condemned the siege in Kosra, blaming the current government for fostering anarchy that threatens soldiers and Israeli security. He warned that political support for Jewish extremist violence risks escalating conflict and damaging Israel's international standing. Golan urged restoring law and order in the West Bank and combating all forms of terror with a firm hand.

Following the incident, Central Command Chief Avi Blot visited Kosra. The IDF claimed to have dismantled the structure used by extremists to besiege Palestinian families, though footage showed the structure still standing. The local council head, Abed Alazim Wadi, described the situation as chaotic due to the influx of settlers. The petition and these developments underscore the deep tensions and security challenges facing the IDF and Israeli society in the West Bank.
