Israeli Reservist Details IDF Rules on Using Force Against Jews in West Bank Clashes

A senior Israeli reservist currently serving in the Benjamin Regional Brigade described his experiences and the IDF's approach to handling tensions between Jewish settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank. Serving since 2007, mostly in Judea and Samaria, he noted that while violent riots by Jews were rare, friction incidents occurred, especially near agricultural areas where Palestinians work. The IDF's typical response is to remove Palestinians from these areas to quickly de-escalate tensions, as they are more likely to comply than Jewish settlers, who are described as more defiant.

The reservist recounted that during operational briefings following a recent shooting attack near the Gilad Farm, commanders emphasized minimizing escalation and intervening quickly to separate conflicting parties. He also revealed that soldiers were instructed to keep their weapons close and, if necessary, to use physical force against Jewish settlers to calm the situation. This directive was confirmed by his company commander, underscoring the priority of maintaining order regardless of the parties involved.

The reservist expressed concern that the focus on preventing clashes diverts military resources from other security tasks. For example, troops were redeployed to guard sensitive sites like Gilad Farm to prevent further incidents, which some argue reduces military presence on civilian roads. However, the IDF stated that overall troop deployment in the area has increased rather than decreased.

Following the recent escalation, Central Command forces arrested over 130 suspects linked to Hamas and other terror activities, conducting operations across hundreds of locations. Security agencies, including the IDF, Shin Bet, Border Police, and Israeli Police, are cooperating to prevent further violence and reduce nationalist crime. Entry to certain settlements has been restricted until Tuesday as part of these security measures.

The IDF continues to monitor social media for incitement and potential "inspiration attacks," acting swiftly to detain suspects. The overarching goal remains to maintain calm in the West Bank amid rising tensions and prevent further bloodshed.
