Deputy Minister Almog Cohen announced on Wednesday that he will run in the upcoming Likud party primaries. His decision follows a reduction in the required minimum tenure needed to qualify for the party's preliminary elections. Cohen expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving Israeli citizens and confidence in mutual support with the electorate, stating, "I am sure that just as I have stood by you in good times and bad, you will stand by me." He also thanked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his trust and their shared journey.
Earlier in April, speculation about Cohen's potential move to Likud intensified after he attended the Likud event in Eilat despite not being a party member at the time. Reports indicated that in a Likud primary poll, Cohen ranked highly among free voters. Now, with the tenure requirement shortened, he has officially declared his candidacy for the primaries.
Cohen's entry into the primaries marks a significant step in his political career within the Likud party, positioning him as a contender in the upcoming internal elections.
