Israeli basketball player Ben Sarf, 20, faced criticism after his performance in the NBA Summer League, raising questions about his role with the Brooklyn Nets ahead of his second season. Despite flashes of his unique talent as a left-handed guard, Sarf struggled to become a significant threat from beyond the three-point line and had difficulty driving to the basket.
John Hollinger of The Athletic highlighted Sarf's challenges, noting he often took difficult shots under pressure and made only 14 of 36 three-point attempts (38.9%). Additionally, Sarf's rebound rate was a disappointing 5.7% over six games, which is low for a 1.98-meter guard. Sarf averaged 10 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 37.3% overall and 33.3% from three-point range.
Brooklyn's backcourt rotation favored other young talents like sixth overall draft pick from Louisville, Aghur Damin, and Michael Brown Jr., who are expected to lead the Nets' young core. Hollinger suggested that aside from Damin, the Nets may have missed opportunities with their five first-round picks in 2025. Sarf appeared mostly off the bench in four of the six Summer League games, indicating his uncertain standing on the team.
The Nets and Sarf now face the challenge of translating Summer League experience into a more defined role during the upcoming NBA season.
