The Israeli Ministry of Education has issued a new directive aimed at clearly defining the boundaries between parents and school staff. Released on Sunday in collaboration with teachers' organizations and parent leadership, the directive seeks to regulate the complex relationship that has developed over recent years by specifying the responsibilities and authorities of each party.

Under the new rules, parents will no longer be allowed to interfere in professional decisions such as teacher assignments or teaching methods, which are exclusively under the purview of educational professionals. Schools must establish clear communication times and channels, limiting contact with teachers to appropriate hours and requiring parents to first address concerns with the relevant teacher before escalating to school management.

Additionally, parental access to schools during the day will be restricted to prior coordination and, when possible, accompaniment by school staff. In cases of threats or harm directed at staff by parents, supervisory and district authorities will intervene directly. Conversely, if a staff member harms a parent, the overall inspector will be involved in handling the case.

Education Minister Yoav Kisch emphasized the need to support educators by strengthening their professional status and providing them with the necessary space to perform their duties. He stated that the new directive "clearly defines responsibilities, authority, and boundaries while establishing a respectful and proper relationship with parents." The directive also includes official backing for teachers facing violence or excessive interference from parents.

The Ministry's move aims to create a balanced and respectful environment that protects educators and clarifies the roles of parents in the educational process, ensuring that communication and involvement occur within structured and agreed-upon frameworks.
