Avivida Bechar, a resident of Be'eri who lost his wife and son in the October 7 attacks, strongly criticized the proposed Gaza agreement outlined by the Peace Council. In an interview with 103FM, Bechar expressed deep skepticism that Hamas would disarm under any agreement, stating, "Hamas continues to strengthen. Disarmament? That will not happen." He emphasized the proximity of Gaza to Israeli border communities, noting the ongoing threat just four kilometers from his home.
Bechar called for a shift in Israel's approach toward Hamas, urging decisive action and a clear message that Israel does not want Hamas in the area. He appealed to the international community to help remove Hamas and Gaza residents from the territory, saying, "Start pushing hard and tell the world to take them because they cannot remain here." While he does not support Israeli settlement in Gaza, he insists the land should no longer be under Hamas control, describing October 7 as a "Nakba" for Hamas and asserting the territory should no longer belong to them.
He warned that the current situation poses a direct danger to nearby Israeli communities and could lead to future attacks, even in Tel Aviv. Bechar also referenced the understanding between U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, highlighting the need for Israeli determination similar to that of Iran. He believes that with sufficient resolve, Israel could achieve the changes he advocates.
Regarding political involvement, Bechar declined an offer from the Likud party to join their list, stating he does not want political responsibility that conflicts with his views. He is currently focused on rebuilding his home, family, and kibbutz after the tragedy.
