Son of Former MK Arrested Near Ramla with Smuggled Loaded Gun

Israeli police forces from the Central District's riot unit arrested Eli Elazar Cohen, 45, son of former Shas MK Amnon Cohen, near Ramla on Road 44 during a proactive operation. The officers stopped a suspicious vehicle near the Nesher factory and had to break its window to subdue Cohen, who was driving. Upon searching the car, police found a loaded FN pistol with a 9mm magazine inside a side bag. The gun was unmarked, indicating it was smuggled into Israel through border crossings. The arrest occurred eight days ago based on intelligence information, and Cohen was taken to Ramla police station for questioning. His detention was extended until Tuesday. Cohen faces charges of illegal weapon possession and conspiracy to commit a crime. His lawyers, Kobi Saia and Menachem Batao, described his situation as complex, revealing that Cohen's partner was murdered in Nova and that he was attempting to rescue her. They also stated Cohen suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and claimed the gun belonged to someone who threatened him and killed his dog, not to Cohen himself.
