Israeli footballer Anan Khalili is set to sign with Crystal Palace, marking one of the most intriguing transfers in Israeli football. Khalili will join the English Premier League club where he will share the locker room with Moroccan national team defender Shaadi Riyad. Riyad, 23, previously played for Barcelona and was loaned to Real Betis in the 2023/2024 season before moving permanently to Crystal Palace.

Notably, Riyad was among 70 footballers, including stars like Paul Pogba, Amad Diallo, Hakim Ziyech, and Adama Traore, who signed a letter in November 2025 urging UEFA to suspend Israel from all competitions until it complies with international law and ceases actions causing civilian deaths and mass starvation in Gaza. This background adds a complex dimension to Khalili's move, as he will now play alongside a player who publicly supported sanctions against Israel.

Khalili aims to make a successful step up in his career through this transfer. The move highlights the intersection of sports and political statements within international football, especially concerning Israeli and Palestinian issues. The transfer is expected to be finalized soon, with Khalili joining Crystal Palace's squad for the upcoming season.
