  • Setup involves Wi-Fi and app connection, which can be complicated and prone to issues.

  • Security concerns exist due to the camera in LilMilo's nose, though Ecovacs devices are generally secure.

Ecovacs, known for robotic vacuum cleaners, has launched LilMilo, a robotic companion dog designed to provide emotional interaction rather than perform tasks. Introduced at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, LilMilo is now available in Israel through importer Ronlight. The robot dog weighs about 1.4 kilograms, resembles a small poodle, and features a soft white fur covering, two tiny screen eyes, and a camera-equipped nose capable of facial recognition. It includes over 40 sensors, such as heat sensors that warm up when petted, simulating a real dog's warmth.

LilMilo can wag its tail, blink happily, bark softly, and dance to music, expressing 21 different emotional states through an advanced language model that learns user habits. However, it cannot walk or move its limbs, only its head and tail, which limits its physical realism. The robot comes with a charging bed that doubles as a stylish home accessory. Setup involves connecting to Wi-Fi, facial and voice recognition, and app pairing, though the process can be cumbersome and prone to connectivity issues.

During a three-week trial, the reviewer experienced a gradual emotional connection with LilMilo, appreciating its affectionate responses but recognizing it cannot replace a real dog. The robot's personality develops slowly through interaction, with five possible personalities available via the app. Despite its charm, LilMilo's high price of around $600 (approximately 2,999 NIS in Israel) and limited physical capabilities restrict its appeal to gadget enthusiasts rather than mainstream pet owners.

Security concerns arise from the camera in LilMilo's nose, which could potentially be hacked to invade privacy, though Ecovacs devices are generally considered secure. The robot reflects a growing trend in countries like Japan and Korea, where robotic companions are used for emotional support and elder care. While LilMilo is an intriguing glimpse into the future of robotic companionship, it remains a novelty rather than a practical pet substitute at this stage.
