Police Investigations Unit Recommends Disciplinary Action Against Haifa Police Commander

The Police Investigations Department (Mahash) has concluded there is insufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Senior Superintendent Eyal Shahar, commander of the Haifa police station, regarding allegations of indecent acts. The investigation focused on suspicions involving a female officer under his command, but testimonies denied any sexual misconduct occurred. Additionally, the inquiry examined allegations of breach of trust related to a sexual relationship Shahar reportedly had with another subordinate officer. Mahash determined that while the conduct did not meet the criminal threshold, it warranted disciplinary proceedings. Following the investigation, Shahar was released under restrictive conditions, including a 12-day removal from his post and a ban on contact with officers from his station. The case was initiated after senior police officials received information about the relationship, leading to a covert investigation that later became public and culminated in Shahar's interrogation.
