The story · English

More than two decades after the end of the iconic sitcom "Friends," Lisa Kudrow, who portrayed Phoebe Buffay, continues to be a beloved figure in pop culture. In 2026, Kudrow, 63, is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming the third "Friends" cast member to be honored this way after Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. This recognition coincides with her third Emmy nomination for her role in the comedy series "The Comeback," spanning a remarkable 20 years between her first and latest nominations for the same role. She was also nominated for writing the show alongside longtime collaborator Michael Patrick King.

Despite her enduring fame, Kudrow has openly discussed her struggles with self-confidence, body image, and feeling deserving of the love her character received. Raised in a Jewish family in Los Angeles, she initially pursued a scientific career before embracing acting, encouraged by friends and mentors like John Lovitz. Kudrow joined the improvisation troupe The Groundlings in 1989 and eventually landed the role of Phoebe, which earned her an Emmy in 1998.

Kudrow has reflected on the intense and sometimes challenging environment behind the scenes of "Friends," including the male-dominated writers' room and the 1999 sexual harassment lawsuit against Warner Bros. Studios. She also revealed her struggles with body image during the show's run, including unhealthy weight loss driven by external pressures.

After "Friends," Kudrow continued acting and creating, with "The Comeback" standing out as a defining project. The show, co-created with King, explores the challenges of aging in Hollywood and the impact of reality TV culture. Initially canceled after one season, it was revived for a second season in 2014 and is now returning for a third and final season in 2026, addressing the rise of artificial intelligence in entertainment. Kudrow filmed the new season at Warner Bros. Studios, closing a personal and professional circle.

Kudrow has come to embrace the concept of a "comeback," transforming it from a source of embarrassment to a celebration of resilience and reinvention. She continues to inspire both longtime fans and new generations discovering "Friends" and her later work.
