The Israeli military has completed the disciplinary trials of four soldiers involved in a mass mutiny at the Teyman base within the Givati Brigade's Tzabar Battalion. Three soldiers who led the rebellion were sentenced to 30 days imprisonment each, dismissed from combat roles, and immediately removed from frontline service. A fourth soldier, who was on leave at the time, received a 20-day sentence and was also dismissed from combat duties. In total, 18 soldiers from the battalion were sentenced to imprisonment and removed from combat roles following the incident.
The mutiny occurred several weeks ago when a group of fighters from the Tzabar Battalion laid down their personal weapons in the company area and left the base without authorization. This organized departure was triggered by a severe dispute with the battalion commander, Brigadier General Netanel Shamka. The conflict arose after the commander ordered the removal of metal plaques and signs placed by veteran soldiers at the base, which symbolized an unofficial tradition known as "young and old". This tradition granted veteran soldiers privileges, exemptions from routine duties, and status benefits, which contradicted official military regulations.
The plaques were seen as symbols of discriminatory status within the company, and their removal sparked the protest. The IDF stated at the time that the event was inconsistent with the values of the Israeli Defense Forces and the expected conduct of its soldiers. The brigade commander has since completed the disciplinary response against all involved soldiers to uphold military order and discipline.
