The story · English

Ayman Odeh, leader of the Hadash party, announced he will not run in the upcoming Israeli elections and urged for the unification of Arab parties. Speaking on August 4, 2026, Odeh emphasized the importance of a joint Arab list with the Ra'am party, stating that their constituents strongly desire unity. He expressed respect for Yoav Segalovich, a potential ally, and welcomed any political cooperation based on shared programs rather than personalities.

Odeh highlighted that the entire Arab and Islamic world has offered Israel peace, recognition, and normalization, advocating for a two-state solution as the best path to peace with both Arab and Islamic countries. He referenced former Prime Minister Netanyahu's acceptance of the Trump administration's 20-point peace plan, which includes the establishment of a Palestinian state, noting Netanyahu's support for this framework.

Regarding his political contacts, Odeh said he has not been in touch recently with figures like Naftali Bennett or Gadi Eizenkot, explaining that since he is no longer a candidate, there has been a natural pause in communication. He also cautioned that close coordination between Arab parties and Zionist opposition factions might be exploited by Netanyahu to incite opposition.

Odeh recalled past discussions with Mansour Abbas of Ra'am about running together on a joint list to maximize voter turnout, but noted Abbas preferred a technical list instead. He reiterated his support for a political program that unites Arab parties to better represent their communities and advance peace efforts.
