Orphaned Scholar Gets Engaged After 20 Years, Faces Financial Struggles Ahead of Wedding

The story · English

A 38-year-old orphaned Torah scholar from a distinguished family has recently become engaged after two decades of waiting, sparking joy and surprise among his friends and acquaintances. Despite his deep religious devotion and perseverance through many hardships, including growing up without parental support and enduring severe poverty, he now faces significant financial challenges in preparing for his wedding and establishing a new household.

Recognizing the groom's difficult situation, Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Stern, known as the author of 'Shvivi Ash,' issued a heartfelt public appeal from his home, urging the community to support the young man. Rabbi Stern described the groom as a "pious and pure descendant of holy lineage" who has endured years of orphanhood and hardship before finally reaching this milestone. He emphasized the importance of communal assistance and set a suggested minimum donation of 360 shekels to help cover the wedding expenses.

Rabbi Stern blessed those who contribute, expressing hope that the groom will be protected by the merit of his ancestors and that he and his future family will enjoy a bright and joyful life. The call for support highlights the broader challenges faced by individuals in similar circumstances within the community and the value placed on collective responsibility.
