The story · English

In a radio interview with Kol Barama, Haredi Knesset member Uri Maklev from the United Torah Judaism party expressed that he would not be surprised if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu initially attempts to form a government with former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot. Maklev emphasized that United Torah Judaism will act according to its own interests, stating, "We are a bloc unto ourselves." He clarified that Netanyahu primarily looks out for himself and is not necessarily committed to any bloc.

Maklev also addressed the emergence of new Haredi parties trying to gain influence within the ultra-Orthodox community, hinting at undisclosed sources of their funding. He promised that the public would eventually learn where the substantial financial support originates, suggesting that such revelations would render further discussion about these parties unnecessary.

Criticizing the Religious Zionist Party, Maklev blamed it for causing confusion and inciting tensions over the contentious military draft law, calling it the most problematic coalition partner. Regarding the recently struck-down law to freeze arrests, Maklev defended the Haredi parties’ decision to promote it, acknowledging the anticipated confrontation with the Supreme Court. He argued that the court’s repeated nullification of laws undermines its own legitimacy.
