MK Maccabe: Netanyahu May Form Government With Eisenkot, Haredi Parties Will Act Independently

The story · English

MK Uri Maccabe discussed the possibility that after the upcoming elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might attempt to form a government without the Haredi parties. In an interview on Kol Barama radio, Maccabe said he would not be surprised if Netanyahu's first effort to form a coalition would be with Benny Gantz's former military chief, Gadi Eisenkot. He emphasized that Netanyahu primarily looks out for himself and is not necessarily committed to the traditional right-wing bloc, stating, "We will do what is good for us; we are a bloc on our own."

Regarding the new Haredi parties, Maccabe hinted that details about their funding sources would be revealed in the future. He claimed to know where the large sums of money come from and suggested that once this information becomes public, further discussion would be unnecessary.

Maccabe also addressed the recently struck-down law to freeze arrests of yeshiva students, asserting that promoting the law was the right move despite knowing it would face a Supreme Court challenge. He argued that laws overturned by the court undermine its legitimacy but clarified that he does not advocate disobedience to the judiciary. Instead, he suggested that if the court acts unlawfully, the police should investigate the justices.

Finally, Maccabe sharply criticized the Religious Zionist Party's stance on yeshiva conscription, blaming their ambiguous position for causing confusion and inciting hostility. He described the party as the most problematic within the current coalition.
