The Israeli State Prosecution has filed an indictment against an Israeli citizen who served in both regular and reserve military service in a classified unit. The individual is accused of contacting a person who identified himself as an Iranian intelligence agent and attempting to transfer information to benefit an enemy. The indictment was submitted on July 16 to the Tel Aviv District Court, but a gag order initially prevented publication of details. Recently, the court partially lifted the gag order, allowing limited information about the investigation and charges to be disclosed.
A joint investigation by the Israel Police's National Fraud Unit, the Ministry of Defense's Intelligence and Investigations Division, and the Shin Bet revealed that the accused was asked to assist in recruiting a soldier to establish contact with Iranian operatives. The charges include contact with a foreign agent and attempted transmission of intelligence to the enemy. The identities of the accused, other involved parties, the classified unit, and the specific information allegedly passed remain confidential under the gag order.
Following the case, the Shin Bet, Ministry of Defense, IDF, and Israel Police issued warnings to Israeli citizens against engaging with foreign agents from enemy states or unknown individuals. They urged the public to report any suspicious contacts to law enforcement. The case is being handled by State Prosecution cyber department attorney Irena Inberg and will proceed in the Tel Aviv District Court under the existing publication restrictions.
