Israeli Couple Celebrates 60 Years of Marriage After Experimenting with Open Relationship

On the occasion of Tu B'Av, the Jewish holiday of love, Israeli couple Bela and Amnon Toren shared their unique love story in a special interview with Nasli Berda on "Hadashot HaBoker" (Channel 12). Married for 60 years, the couple revealed how their relationship has remained strong and passionate over the decades. Bela described their bond as being "one person," emphasizing their deep connection.

About 40 years ago, when they were around 40 years old, Bela and Amnon experimented with opening their relationship. They agreed on complete honesty to avoid deception, especially since Amnon was serving in the army at the time. The experience was brief but ultimately reinforced their love, with Bela calling their marriage "a treasure." She noted that their relationship and intimacy improved following this period.

The couple also shared insights on sustaining a long marriage, highlighting the importance of individuality within togetherness. Bela spoke of enduring longing and the many love letters they exchanged during Amnon’s military service, preserving over 200 letters and notes to this day. Their story began when Bela, at age 16, boldly approached Amnon on a bus ride to a kibbutz, sparking a lifelong romance.

When asked about the secret to their lasting love, Amnon said there are no secrets, while Bela humorously recounted their occasional quarrels, such as a recent incident involving spilled lemonade. Despite such moments, she said she always sees the young man she fell in love with. Their story offers a heartfelt example of enduring love and commitment through honesty, humor, and mutual respect.
