Former Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit Appointed Dean of Ramat Gan Law Faculty

Avichai Mandelblit, former Attorney General of Israel, has been appointed dean of the newly established Faculty of Law at the Ramat Gan Academic College. The faculty was recently approved by the Council for Higher Education, and Mandelblit aims to build and develop it according to his vision and that of the college president, Professor Mohammad Wated. Mandelblit previously served as dean of the School of Law at the Center for Law and Business.

In his new role, Mandelblit will oversee teaching, research, and curriculum development, while strengthening ties between academia, the legal profession, and public service. Mandelblit, 61, a resident of Petah Tikva, brings four decades of extensive public, security, and academic experience. He holds a law degree from Tel Aviv University and a master's and doctorate from Bar-Ilan University, focusing on legal warfare and Israel's future.

His career began in the military prosecution, where he served 26 years, ultimately becoming the Chief Military Advocate General. During his tenure, he managed complex legal challenges related to the Second Lebanon War, Operation Cast Lead, and the Gaza flotilla incident, including international legal proceedings. He also worked to strengthen the operational legal advice within the IDF and promote international law among commanders.

After retiring from the military in 2011, Mandelblit joined the Institute for National Security Studies as a senior researcher. In 2013, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed him Cabinet Secretary, and in 2016 he became Attorney General, serving until 2022. Following his term, he returned to academia at Bar-Ilan University before taking on his current position.

Upon assuming the deanship, Mandelblit described his role as an educational and academic mission, emphasizing the need for academic excellence, critical thinking, values, and deep understanding of Israel's legal and public challenges. College President Mohammad Wated praised Mandelblit's appointment as a testament to the college's high academic standards and expressed confidence that under his leadership, the faculty will become a leading institution for legal education in Israel.
