Former Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit Appointed Dean of Ramat Gan Law Faculty

Avichai Mandelblit, former Attorney General of Israel, has been appointed dean of the newly established Faculty of Law at the Ramat Gan Academic College. The faculty was recently launched following approval from the Council for Higher Education. Mandelblit, 61, will oversee teaching, research, and curriculum development, aiming to strengthen ties between academia, the legal profession, and public service.

Mandelblit previously served as dean of the Law School at the Center for Law and Business and joined Bar-Ilan University's law faculty after completing his term as Attorney General in 2022. He holds a law degree from Tel Aviv University and a master's and doctorate from Bar-Ilan University, where his doctoral thesis focused on "Legal Warfare and the State of Israel: Past Experience and Future Outlook." His career began in the military prosecution, where he served for 26 years, including as Chief Military Prosecutor. After retiring from the IDF in 2011, he worked as a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies. In 2013, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed him Cabinet Secretary, and in 2016 he became Attorney General.

Upon assuming his new role, Mandelblit described it as an educational and academic mission to train future legal professionals with academic excellence, critical thinking, values, and deep understanding of Israel's legal and public challenges. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with faculty and students to enhance the faculty's standing. The college president, Professor Mohammad Watted, praised Mandelblit's legal and public experience, integrity, and values, anticipating the faculty will become a leading institution for legal education under his leadership.
