Yair Golan Endorses Gadi Eizenkot as Leading Candidate for Israeli PM

At the National Security Conference hosted by Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth in cooperation with the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, expressed his support for Gadi Eizenkot as the leading candidate to head the next Israeli government. Golan stated that "as things currently stand, Eizenkot will be the natural candidate," while emphasizing that the final decision depends on election results.

Golan also addressed the ongoing leadership struggles within the political bloc opposing Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, underscoring his principle that "whoever leads the largest party in the bloc should lead the next government." He appealed to voters to strengthen the Democratic Party's position, stressing the need for "a large and strong Democratic Party with 15 or more seats" to ensure a government of genuine change and reform.

This development marks a significant challenge to Bennett's leadership amid shifting alliances and contestations within the opposition camp ahead of upcoming elections.
