Jackal Pack Takes Over Tel Aviv Residential Courtyard, Residents Fear for Safety

A pack of jackals has taken over the courtyard of a residential building in Tel Aviv, causing daily fear among the residents. The animals roam freely near playground equipment and the swimming pool, preventing residents from safely using the outdoor space. Moran and Elia Aharon, a mother and daughter living in the building, described the situation on the morning news program "HaOlam HaBoker." Moran said the jackals have severely impacted their quality of life, and she fears sending her children to the yard. Elia, aged 10, recounted a frightening incident when a jackal chased her for about three minutes after she returned from camp, forcing her to run toward a road where she was nearly hit by a car.

Residents have repeatedly contacted the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality seeking a solution, but claim the municipality has responded by blaming the residents and threatening fines. Moran emphasized the urgency of resolving the issue, stating, "We need to feel safe in our own home."

The municipality responded that it is actively working to reduce the jackal problem through trapping, controlling food sources, and educating residents. They noted that a trapper has caught several jackals in the area and advised residents to trim vegetation and avoid feeding the animals. The municipality stressed that resident cooperation is essential and pledged to continue efforts as needed.
