Jackal Attacks Dog in Ramat Gan Neighborhood Raise Resident Fears

In Ramat Gan's Shikun Vatikim neighborhood, a jackal attacked and injured the dog of resident Shani Yitzchiak, turning fears of wildlife into a tangible threat. The dog required urgent medical treatment and is currently recovering after the wild animal entered the residential area. What began as a single attack has escalated into a widespread issue, with jackals roaming near yards and gardens, losing their natural fear of humans and causing growing anxiety, especially after dark and among families with children.

Yitzchiak described the intense fear residents feel, saying, "The fear is crazy, really surreal. You go out, and they pass right in front of you like stray cats." She added that many neighbors are deeply worried about their children's safety as the animals sometimes enter homes. In response, a professional municipal team set traps around the building area last night following environmental ministry guidelines. Since the area is private property, full resident consent was required and only obtained 11 days after the initial request. Officials denied claims that the trapping was contingent on clearing or trimming the area.
