Israeli Ambassador Michael Brodsky Honored at Farewell Event in Uman
A special farewell ceremony was held in Uman, Ukraine, to mark the end of Michael Brodsky's tenure as Israel's ambassador to Ukraine. The event, organized by the Breslov Center and Uman's Chief Rabbi Yaakov Jan, brought together key figures from the Jewish community and local authorities to honor Brodsky's efforts in strengthening Israeli-Ukrainian relations. Attendees included prominent rabbis such as Yaakov Jan of Uman, Meir Stambler of the Ukrainian Jewish Communities Federation, Shaul Horvitz of Vinnytsia, and Chabad emissary Rabbi Moti Levanetz from Kyiv, alongside representatives from the Jewish Federation and United Hatzalah.
Senior Israeli Foreign Ministry officials also participated, including Deputy Director-General Eli Yifrah, Israeli Consul in Moldova Sagie Rabovsky, and Zionist Federation envoy Nahman Steinberg. Uman city officials, including Deputy Mayor Oleg Ganich and Breslov Center CEO Michael Pinto, were present as well. The speakers praised Brodsky for his dedicated service, particularly his commitment to the Jewish community and his significant contributions during Ukraine's recent challenging security situation.
Rabbi Yaakov Jan, a central figure in the community and organizer of the event, has been instrumental in addressing halachic and logistical issues for tens of thousands of pilgrims visiting Uman during Jewish holidays. Uman is a major spiritual destination, attracting tens of thousands annually to the gravesite of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. The Ukrainian government recently approved legislation to establish a national center to commemorate Rabbi Nachman's heritage, underscoring the site's importance.
The farewell concluded with wishes for Brodsky's future success and hopes for continued strengthening of ties between Israel, Ukrainian Jewry, and the Ukrainian people. It was also announced that Roee Rozenblit will succeed Brodsky as Israel's ambassador to Ukraine. Brodsky's tenure was marked by navigating complex security challenges while maintaining close relations with the Jewish community and supporting its institutions in Ukraine.
