Next week, Beitar Jerusalem will host AEK Larnaca in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League tie at the Ilie Oană Stadium in Ploiești, Romania. After securing a 1-0 away victory in the first leg, Beitar fans are expected to travel in large numbers, increasing demand for tickets. The Ilie Oană Stadium, home to Petrolul Ploiești, has a seating capacity of 15,073, all covered, with stands close to the pitch creating an intense atmosphere reminiscent of Beitar's home ground, Turner Stadium.
Originally rebuilt and reopened in 2011 on the site of the historic club stadium, Ilie Oană is considered one of Romania's most modern venues. It holds a UEFA Category 4 rating, qualifying it to host international and European competition matches. The stadium's distinctive elliptical and modern design has earned it the nickname "the UFO" among Romanian football fans and made it a landmark in Ploiești, located about 60 kilometers north of Bucharest, roughly an hour by train.
This venue choice reflects UEFA regulations and the logistical considerations for hosting European fixtures, as Beitar Jerusalem does not play its home European matches in Israel. The upcoming match is highly anticipated by supporters eager to witness their team build on its first-leg advantage.
