The US Embassy in Jerusalem issued an unusual warning to Americans in Israel about a significant increase in violence linked to rivalries between organized crime groups, specifically the Musli and Jarushi factions. These conflicts have involved grenade attacks targeting businesses and homes, particularly sushi chain Japnika branches in Tel Aviv, Jaffa, and Herzliya. The embassy noted that attackers often use motorcycles to throw grenades at private residences, vehicles, and commercial properties.

Israeli police have responded with enforcement operations aimed at disrupting these violent crime groups and arresting their leaders, who are believed responsible for the attacks. The embassy advised Americans in central Israel to remain vigilant near commercial areas, avoid locations with police activity or checkpoints, report suspicious behavior immediately, review personal security plans, stay aware of their surroundings, maintain contact with family and friends, and ensure travel documents are current and accessible.

The grenade attacks have escalated tensions between the Musli and Jarushi crime families, with incidents occurring in upscale neighborhoods and commercial districts. Police patrols and undercover units have increased presence near Japnika outlets to prevent further violence. Business owner Barak Abramov is not suspected of any involvement. Recent attacks include grenade throws in Ramat Hasharon and Tel Aviv’s Kochav Hatzafon neighborhood, linked to the Jarushi family.

Despite the surge in violence, police released Yossi Musli, head of one crime organization, to house arrest for five days along with three associates. Authorities described the conflict as involving two powerful groups with extensive operational capabilities, noting over ten incidents within a week, including arson, grenade attacks, and shootings across Israel. Police remain on high alert to manage the ongoing threat.
