Professor Shlomo Mashiach, Pioneer of IVF in Israel, Dies at 89

Professor Shlomo Mashiach, a founding figure in Israel's in vitro fertilization (IVF) field and credited with helping bring approximately 40,000 babies into the world, passed away at the age of 89 in Tel Aviv. He was among the founders of the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and formerly headed the Women’s and Maternity Hospital at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

His family shared with ynet that their home in Tel Aviv was directly hit by an Iranian missile during Operation "Shield and Arrow." A few months later, during air raid sirens, Professor Mashiach rushed to a protected space (mamad) and was injured, which contributed to the decline in his health. He is survived by two sons and two granddaughters.
