An Israeli Scouts summer camp has come under scrutiny after reports emerged of verbal and physical abuse against a special needs teenager during a traditional "Zubor ceremony," according to a Sunday evening broadcast by Kan News. Other campers reportedly humiliated the boy, including forcibly putting water in his mouth. Days earlier, at a different summer camp, campers extinguished cigarettes on another participant as part of the same ceremony.
The Scouts movement responded by condemning the incidents as severe violations of their values. They stated that tens of thousands of youth participate in summer activities, and such violent behavior is unacceptable. The organization is conducting a thorough investigation and has taken immediate disciplinary action, including expelling the involved youths from the camp and suspending them from all activities.
Additionally, the Scouts have paused their programs to facilitate comprehensive discussions aimed at reinforcing acceptable behavior and core values within the movement. This incident follows broader concerns about rising youth violence and substance abuse in Israel, highlighted by a recent case of a second-grade student assaulting a teacher amid the ongoing war tensions.
