Deezer Launches Free Tool to Detect AI-Generated Music in Playlists

Deezer has launched a free online tool that lets users check whether their playlists include songs created using artificial intelligence. C14 reported that the tool supports 27 languages and can scan playlists from 20 popular streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and YouTube Music. Users select the service, allow Deezer access to their playlists, and then receive a notification if AI-generated tracks are found.

The move comes amid a sharp rise in the use of artificial intelligence to create music, alongside concerns about the use of copyrighted material and attempts to commit fraud in streaming systems. According to Deezer, about 44% of all new music uploaded to the platform is now created using AI. The company says it sees about 75,000 new AI tracks every day, and more than 2 million per month. Despite the unusual volume, listening to AI music remains relatively low and accounts for just 1% to 3% of total plays. However, according to Deezer, about 85% of those plays are flagged as fraudulent and excluded from revenue.

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said the company is examining additional measures, including updating supplier policies or removing content. He said Deezer wants to promote transparency in streaming and help users understand what is really in their playlists.
